HURRICANE WHO

There have been some updates in the booking process for our convention hotel. Please read carefully, and see how these new developments effect you.

Up until today, the convention rate for the Hurricane Who Convention was $89 a night plus taxes and fees. The recent economic situation had caused Ramada to release room rates at the hotel much cheaper than the Convention Rate. Both Hurricane Who and the Convention Services Team at the Ramada Orlando Celebration have been working diligently for months towards a resolution to this dilemma.

Today the following agreement was reached. Effective this week the Convention Rate for the Hurricane Who Convention will go from $89 a night plus taxes and fees to $69 a night plus tax. The new Convention Rate of $69 will include the $10 a night Resort Fee, something that was not included with the $89 Rate. The $69 Room Rate will be available through the website of the Ramada Orlando Celebration, with the Group/Discount Code “HurricaneWho“.

If you had already booked a room under the Convention Block at the $89 rate, your reservation will be modified to reflect the $69 Rate. Please allow a few days for this change to be processed before you call to confirm.

If you have booked at the Ramada Orlando Celebration for the Convention Weekend under one of the other, cheaper rates available (AAA, Florida Resident, AARP, etc), your reservations will be counted towards the Room Block for the convention. Please make sure that you advise the Front Desk upon Check-In that you are with the Hurricane Who group. The Convention Staff will also have a log to help make sure your rooms are properly accounted for.

As of this moment, the evening of September 30th, 2009, there are still rooms available at Ramada.com for the Convention Dates at the rate of $55 a night plus taxes and fees. We dont know how long these rates will be there still, so if you need to book one do it as soon as possible.

ALL Convention Attendees should request to be in the ‘Jasmine’ section of the hotel. It is the closest to the Convention Center, along with being the host section to the ‘Fury from the Deep End Pool Party’.

Hurricane Who is pleased to announce a representative from the Dalek Empire to the list of convention guests.

Our Dalek Guest will take over the convention on Saturday, get ready for some great photo ops. There will also be a Panel with the team behind bringing the Dalek to the Convention. They will  talk about working with a Dalek and how you can as well. We’re not sure if he can sign autographs but you can ask…if you dare!

This joins our already packed list of Saturday events including Russell Romanella from NASA, a performance of Toby Hadoke’s ‘Moth’s Ate MY Doctor Who Scarf’, and a Midnight Masquerade.

Hurricane Who is currently looking for Volunteers to help with the Convention in October. Help will be needed with a variety of tasks. Everything from TARDIS Moving to A/V, Graphic Design to Convention Security, every little bit helps.

Jarrod has an unusual encounter at Best Buy.

As the countdown continues, Hurricane Who is pleased to announce another addition to our 2009 Convention. “Chicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love It“ is a new book being released by Mad Norwegian.

In the work, female novelists, academics and actresses come together to celebrate the phenomenon that is Doctor Who, discuss their inventive involvement with the show’s fandom and examine why they adore the series.

Several Contributors will be on hand throughout the weekend to discuss the book, as well as feminism in fandom. Editor Tara O’Shea, along with contributors Tammy Garrison, and Katy Shuttleworth will host a Panel looking at this on Friday, August 30th.

Saturday, October 31st, – 10:30am – Main Programming Room

We are pleased to announce a very special Guest for our Convention this Halloween. Mr. Russell Romanella, Director of the International Space Station and Spacecraft Processing at Kennedy Space Center, will be giving a 90 minute presentation on NASA and the Space Program titled “NASA – The Space Exploration Mission“.

His Presentation will be on Saturday, October 31st, at 10:30am in the Main Programming room at the convention.
